The IACBMC Legislative Committee seeks to advocate for legislation favorable to county governments and blocking initiatives unfavorable to the profession. The committee meets as needed in Springfield during the legislative session. Meetings are generally held on Saturdays at the State Capitol and are open to all IACBMC members. Officials are responsible for their own travel. The Legislative Committee works directly in collaboration with the IACBMC legislative consultant and executive director.
Legislative Committee Responsibilities:
• To identify and prioritize legislative issues of concern for the year. • To develop strategies to be presented to the full membership related to the legislative priorities. • To act as the key contact for the county relative to receiving and distributing the Association’s legislative reports. • To analyze and critique state and federal legislation as it moves through the process. • To review advocacy efforts during the year to determine effectiveness and to develop new strategies the following year • To promote on-going communication with key legislators to inform them of county government policy priorities.
