The Illinois Association of County Board Members and Commissioners (IACBMC) has instituted an annual process of developing the association’s legislative platform by requesting proposals from counties around the state. These proposals, together with our ongoing permanent positions, are determined to be the emergent issues affecting county government at the time they are proposed, and are the primary factor in determining the advocacy actions of the association.
Your county is invited to submit resolutions and/or legislative items to be considered for the association’s 2008 Legislative Platform. The deadline for counties to submit proposals for consideration is October 1st, 2007. All proposals will be reviewed by the Executive Board and receive final consideration by the Legislative Committee.
Helpful guidelines for preparing items for submission:
• Submit proposals that are significant not only to your county, but for many or all counties across the state. We will have a greater chance of obtaining support for your items if other counties can relate to the issue.
• Please include a brief statement of rationale that explains why your county believes the item should be included in the IACBMC platform. It is helpful to provide as much supporting information as possible.
• All proposals must be approved by the county board. In other words, any elected or appointed officials may submit an item on his or her own department’s behalf as long as the item has been discussed and agreed upon by the county board.
