Rep. John Bradley (D-Marion) is holding across the state to discuss local road and bridge needs and the proposed motor fuel tax increase. Rep. Bradley is the sponsor of House Bill 1 which increases the motor fuel tax by 8 cents per gallon. The moneys collected from the additional surcharge shall be deposited into the GROW Illinois Fund, and must be used only for debt service and capital improvements. Currently, counties split a percentage of the receipts collected under the motor fuel tax, but House Bill 1 does not contain a local government distribution component for the additional revenue.
